US President Donald Trump proposes that Israeli development in an area that would become the Palestinian state under his Middle East peace plan be frozen for four years. "During this time, Palestinians can use all appropriate deliberation to study the deal, negotiate with Israel, achieve the criteria for statehood, and become a truly independent and wonderful state," Trump says at the White House in Washington. The Israeli government is preparing to annex parts of the West Bank, occupied by Israel in 1967, a plan promised by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during election campaigns and endorsed in January by the U.S. administration of President Donald Trump as part of a Middle East peace plan, but widely rejected in the region. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Friday that China can play a role in reducing tensions in the Middle East, including through its influence with Iran. "I think the relationships that China has can be positive in trying to calm tensions, to prevent escalation, avoid the spread of the conflict," Blinken told reporters, saying Foreign Minister Wang Yi agreed to stay in contact on the Middle East.
