Russian 'Bear' Armored Vehicle Can Withstand Explosions and Chemical Weapons

Description

Russian armored vehicles are some of the best in the world, and they just keep getting better. This is the updated model of a special armoured vehicle in service in the Russian Armed Forced called the 'Medved', or 'Bear', and Ruptly got a chance to see it taken for a test drive in the Nizhny Novgorod Region on Wednesday. The upgraded Bear can take hits from explosive rounds, mines, and even chemical weapons attacks. Designed by special request from Russia's Interior Ministry, the 12-tonne vehicle transports troops and weaponry both in urban and off-road conditions during counter-terrorism operations, riot control or territory defense missions. The VPK-3924 'Medved' is a Russian-made Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle, meaning it can provide protection against chemical and special agents, as well as guaranteeing anti-ballistic protection for the crew when the vehicle is attacked by fire from a distance exceeding 16 feet or when a non-shatterable explosive device packed with 15 pounds or less of TNT is blown up beneath a wheel.

  • Russia's Newest Robot Tank Joins Military Drills Near Moscow

You may have heard of a UAV, or unmanned aerial vehicle, but have you heard about UGVs? UGV stands for unmanned ground vehicle and, just like it sounds like, a UGV is basically a tank drone. One of Russia's newest UGV robotic tanks, called the Soratnik, which means c comrade-in-arms, trained side by side with Russian infantry forces at the Alabino training ground near Moscow on Wednesday. The Soratnik was joined by another UGV called the Nerehta, which sports 4 anti-tank missile bays. Both systems are piloted remotely by expert crews from up to 6 miles away and can reach speeds of up to 25 miles per hour. Both the Soratnik and the Nerehta are built by the Kalashnikov Concern, the same company that manufactures the legendary AK-47. Russian Defence Ministry officials kept a sharp eye on the UGV systems - they will ultimately decide if the Soratnik or the Nerehta enter into active military service. Soratnik is a seven-ton robot tank that can be equipped with machine guns of various calibres, grenade launchers and guided missiles with a range of three miles. The UGVs are designed to keep human beings out of harm's way on the battlefield and may herald an entirely new type of warfare.

  • New Russian Space Suit Can Withstand Temperatures of -67 Fahrenheit

Check out Russia's new generation space suit, meant to protect cosmonauts and astronauts from the harsh realities of space travel. The Polar Bear freeze-proof space suit was designed to be worn just before cosmonauts and astronauts at the Baikonur aerodrome depart for the final frontier, when temperatures fall below zero, so they don't catch a cold on their way to work in space. These same suits were worn by Roscosmos cosmonaut Oleg Novitsky, European Space Agency (ESA) astronaut Thomas Pesquet and NASA astronaut Peggy Whitson shortly before they launched off to the International Space Station from the Baikonur cosmodrone in Kazakhstan on November 17 of this year, becoming the 29th crew to serve on the ISS in orbit.
