Rabat, May 16 (EFE/EPA).- Thousands of Moroccan across the country on Sunday demonstrated in support of Palestinans and to protest against Israeli attacks on Gaza strip.An Israeli military spokesman said a total of 2,900 rockets have been fired by Palestinian militants since the start of the violence, with 450 of them going down over Gaza without reaching Israeli territory while 1,150 were intercepted by Israel's Iron Dome anti-missile system.At least 10 people have died in Israel in the rocket attacks.Escalating tensions boiled over due to Palestinians' frustrations with strict health measures imposed during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan and the proposed forced evictions of Palestinian families from the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah to make way for Jewish settlers, which led to clashes at a Jerusalem holy site. Israel removed metal detectors from a highly sensitive Jerusalem holy site on Tuesday after their installation triggered deadly violence, but Muslim officials said worshippers should continue a boycott for now. IMAGES of people praying outside the holy site in protest
Footage released Sunday shows the interior of the Tomb of Jesus Christ inside the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in East Jerusalem after preservation experts were called in to renovate the site for the first time since 1810. The marble slab stone which covered the tomb which many Christians believe contains the rock where Jesus laid before he was resurrected was pulled open to reveal the internal chamber not seen since the the last restoration work was done over 200 years ago. This is the first time the site has ever been filmed on video. The Aedicule surrounding the Tomb of Jesus In the centre of the church, built in the 19th century, is also in the process of being restored. Restoration costs are covered by the funds from the Eastern Orthodox, Roman Catholic, and Armenian Christian churches, as well as from public and private funds.
