After a vote in the Bundestag, Germany will be joining the anti-IS mission in Syria, in what will be the country's biggest mission abroad since Afghanistan. 30 aircraft, one frigate and 1,200 soldiers will be send to the region to fight the IS militants.

German police officers begin removing climate activists perched precariously on high structures after they embarked on an operation to evacuate a protest camp that has become a symbol of resistance against fossil fuels. Trade unions hold an anti-fascist protest in Rome, after violent protests last week in the centre of the city against the extension of the government's coronavirus pass led to a storming of the CGIL trade union.
