Cox's Bazar, Jul 15 (EFE/EPA).- Myanmar's military junta has rejected a recent United Nations Human Rights Council resolution on the plight of the persecuted Rohingya minority, which is not recognized by the country's authorities.The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, controlled by the junta since the Feb. 1 coup, said in a statement that the resolution is based "on false information and one-sided allegations," the official Global New Light of Myanmar reported Thursday.It added that the "so-called 'Rohingya' … has never been recognized as the ethnic nationality by Myanmar." Yangon, Dec 9 (EFE/EPA).- While many international observers have condemned the decision by Aung San Suu Kyi to defend her government against charges of genocide relating to the military campaign against the Rohingya ethnic minority, a majority of Myanmar's citizens have applauded their de facto leader.Aung San Suu Kyi will head a delegation traveling to The Hague to deny charges of genocide against the Burmese army over its brutal offensive against the Rohingya in a case brought by The Gambia before the International Court of Justice. Over 740,000 members of the mostly-Muslim minority fled to Bangladesh after the last large-scale military campaign launched in August 2017."There was all kinds of international pressure over the Rohingya crisis, and we couldn't do anything to help her. Indonesian authorities on Thursday rescued at least 69 Rohingya refugees who had been at sea for weeks after their boat capsized a day earlier. The refugee group's wooden boat and another vessel trying to help them both capsized on Wednesday, with survivors estimating that around 150 Rohingya had been on board with dozens swept away. Rescuers had rushed to save the group of Rohingya after they spotted them in the water, stranded and holding onto an overturned boat off the coast of western Aceh province. IMAGES
