Doctors in Florida say a man who contracted a rare brain infection got it from his habit of hunting feral pigs. Gizmodo reports the man developed a serious kind of infection caused by Brucella bacteria. Brucella infection, or brucellosis, is known as 'goat fever' in some countries. It has mostly disappeared in the US. The man had been dealing with fever, headache, and other symptoms for 11 months by the time he saw doctors at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville. Doctors suspected and confirmed that he had neurobrucellosis. He was treated with an extensive course of antibiotics.
One of the most adorable and heartwarming things to see is animals caring for babies of different species. A rhesus macaque monkey found a stray dog puppy in the mid-western Indian city of Allahabad on Tuesday, and adopted it as if it were its own baby. As the primate was seen attentively holding the pup in its arms and carrying it through the city's streets, local people gathered around to see the two animals and take pictures of them. Both the monkey and the pup were given food and plenty of attention. This beautiful example of inter-species friendship and charity should serve as an example for us people too.
This adorable Amur tiger cub has made an unlikely new, and much smaller friend. The cub, named 'Sherkhan' after the tiger in the jungle book, played with his new friend, a ferret named 'Rokki', much to the amazement of his caretaker. The amusing pair built on their friendship in Shkotovo, in Russia's Far East, where Sherkhan is being raised. Making friends with other animals apparently runs in the family. Sherkhan is the son of a very famous tiger who hit global headlines after he made friends with a goat, 'Timur,' at the Primorski Safari Park in November 2015.
