A sea of pilgrims ascended Mount Arafat in Saudi Arabia to pray and repent, the climax of the annual hajj bringing together more than two million Muslims from around the world.
Some two million Muslims from around the world began gathering on Mount Arafat for the highlight of the hajj pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia dedicated to prayers and reflection.
As dawn breaks, hundreds of thousands of Muslim pilgrims performing the hajj crowd Saudi Arabia's Mount Arafat, where the Prophet Mohammed is believed to have delivered his final sermon. The hajj is a life goal for many Muslims, who are expected to perform the pilgrimage at least once if they are financially and physically capable.
Pilgrims arrive at Mount Arafat on the third day of Hajj, for the climax of the pilgrimage. The ritual is the high point of the annual pilgrimage, one of the five pillars of Islam, that officials say could be the biggest on record after three years of Covid restrictions. IMAGES
Muslim pilgrims pray at Mount Arafat, also known as Jabal al-Rahma (Mount of Mercy), southeast of the Saudi holy city of Mecca, as the climax of the Hajj pilgrimage approaches.
