Police Heighten Security For July 4 Fireworks

Officials around the United States have prepared for weeks to heighten security measures at public locations where Fourth of July celebrations will take place. In New York, more than 100 trucks filled with sand walled off the streets where crowds gathered for the annual Macy's 4th of July Fireworks Show. The practice of parking trucks around public gathering areas developed after the Bastille Day truck massacre in Nice in July 2016. New York police Commissioner James O'Neill told reporters Friday, "New York City is the number one terror target. We'll be able to take care of the city."
