An unidentified gunman was shot dead by German police after he took several people hostage at a movie theater yesterday.
After more than 16 hours, a group of Australian special forces stormed the cafe where a gunman had taken an estimated 2 dozen hostages Monday morning. Two people have been reported dead and several wounded after the operation.
North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory says an individual was fatally shot by a trooper on Monday night, in what he says were "were difficult circumstances" in Lumberton, one of the worst hit areas in the flood-stricken state. Rough Cut (no reporter narration).
US President Barack Obama called for unity following the fatal shooting of three police officers in Baton Rouge during a press conference in Washington DC on Sunday. Addressing the recent police deaths in Dallas , the president said that "five days ago I travelled to Dallas for the memorial service of the officers who were slain there. I said that, that killer would not be the last person who tries to make us turn on each other nor will today's killer. It remains up to us to make sure that they fail."
