Meet 95-year-old Maria Koltakova, known as the 'Iron Granny' for her daredevil stunts. She performed her first wind tunnel flight in Moscow in February, donning a flight uniform and helmet and being blasted upwards by speeding jets of air. Wind tunnel instructors helped guide the Iron Granny to the very heights of the tunnel as friends and journalists looked on. Maria gained popularity after setting a string of incredible records, including performing her first ever parachute jump at the age of 93, becoming Russia's oldest skydiver.
101-year old Russian war veteran Nadezhda Myagkikh has a surprising nickname. Even though members of the elderly generation usually don't take too kindly to computers, locals call Nadia the 'Grandma-Hacker' because her love of surfing the Internet. The craziest thing about this tech savvy grandma is that she was around when electricity was first introduced in her village during the Russian empire. Now 101-year-old Nadia watches movies, Skypes with friends and family, and listens to music online.
A four-year-old boy who had been missing for nearly five days in a forest inhabited by bears, has been found alive. The child, named Dima Peskov, was discovered in a Siberian forest near the Ural Mountains. Little Dima survived by eating grass and drinking from puddles, but the dirty water and constant bites by mosquitos and other insects had taken their toll. He was on the verge of death when he was discovered.
Meet Nina Bychkova, the 12-year-old girl from Novosibirsk with locks so long that locals call her the Siberian Rapunzel. Nina never had a haircut - not once in her life - and her flowing hair has grown to an astonishing length of nearly 55 inches. Taking care of all that hair is no easy feat. Nina never colors or straightens her hair in order to keep it protected. The Siberian Rapunzel hopes to get the Guinness world record for the longest hair in the under 18 category.
This little four-year-old boy may look like your average toddler, but that mischievious grin hides a super strong body. Four-year-old Zhenya Kuzmenkov can lift this 8.8 pound kettleball a whopping 117 times and you can tell by the smile on his face that he loves doing it too. Little Zhenya caused a sensation when he lifted the kettleball over a hundred times during the Victory Record fitness event held on May 9th in the Irkutsk Region of Russia. Zhenya lifts with his father Aleksandr, a professional athlete, and his 11-year-old sister Yana, who has been lifting for 2 years and can swing the 8.8 pound kettleball a whopping 550 times already. Of course, Zhenya is still just a kid, and lifting weights at a very young age can have negative effects on children's growth. However, Zhenya's dad regularly consults with experts to figure out the appropriate weight limit for his little tyke and never exceeds the maximum. Of course, Zhenya is a kid at heart and loves to play, so his dad mixes in play time with training. Aleksandr brought his kids to train with him and, unexpectedly, weighlifting became a family hobby, and they now regularly train together.
