The mill is tuned to generate 181 horsepower at 3,500 rpm and a healthy 280 foot-pounds of torque from 1,750 to 3,250 rpm. A six-speed manual transmission comes standard, and a six-speed dual-clutch DSG unit can be ordered as an option. The new Golf R, which has been on the market since the start of the year, outperforms all previous Golf R models, boasting 235 kW / 320 PS and a torque of 420 newton metres. To make sure that the power is brought to the road as effectively as possible, Volkswagen’s engineers have developed a new 4MOTION all-wheel drive system with torque vectoring on the rear axle. It forms the basis for the improved vehicle handling of the Golf R, which is setting the standard in its vehicle class.
Like all current Volkswagens, the new Golf R Variant is optimally networked with its owner or user. The basis for this is provided as standard by the digital instruments (“Digital Cockpit Pro”) with a ten-inch display, the “Ready 2 Discover” infotainment system (10.0-inch touchscreen) and the multifunction sports steering wheel. Important: All infotainment systems belong to the third generation of the "modular infotainment kit" (MIB3). They are all linked to an online connectivity unit (OCU) that is equipped with an eSIM. OCU and eSIM enable access to a constantly growing range of online-based functions and services that are provided via the brand's own “Volkswagen We” ecosystem. Of course, the new Golf R Variant is also prepared for the spectrum of “We Connect” and “We Connect Plus”.
With 235 kW (320 PS), the new Golf R Estate is the most powerful and dynamic Golf Estate to date. More power and driving dynamics, numerous innovations, more space and strong emotions: this is what makes the new Golf R Estate better than ever before. The standard 4MOTION all-wheel drive with R Performance Torque Vectoring is powered by a 2.0 TSI engine with a maximum torque of 420 Nm. Power is transmitted via an R-specific 7-speed dual clutch gearbox. It sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds. The top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h. With the optional R Performance package, a top speed of 270 km/h is possible. The package also includes 19-inch wheels and the additional driving modes Special (Nürburgring mode) and Drift (for power slides). A host of assist systems and the latest-generation Infotainment system guarantee even more safety, comfort and convenience.
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Golf R, Volkswagen is launching the Golf R “20 Years” as an exclusive special-edition model. The production period limited to approximately one year makes the special-edition model a collector’s item as soon as it rolls off the production line. Like all premium performance models of the Volkswagen R with their increased power, the Golf R has its roots on the race track and stands for the transfer of innovative technologies to series production. Fan communities around the world are enthralled by the expressive design and enhanced performance. The new Golf R “20 Years” is now available to order with prices starting from 59,995 euros in Germany.
