Ukraine's National Guard troops and other soldiers from the Ministry of Internal Affairs unit train near the Ukraine-Belarus border. The video, released by the Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs, shows soldiers during a combat drill, carrying weapons in an unidentified location.
Images published by the Russian Defence Ministry show the units of the 150th motorised rifle division carrying out a military exercise in Russia's Rostov region bordering Ukraine. This comes amid continuing tensions between Russia and the West over the possibility of an invasion of Ukraine.
Russian Defence ministry images show drills on the military training fields of Kuzminskiy and Kadamovskiy, near Rostov-on-Don, less than 50 kilometres from the Ukrainian border. According to the ministry, more than 2.5 thousand servicemen of the Southern Military District took part in the combat training events, about 100 T-72B3 tanks were involved. IMAGES
As tensions soar on the Ukraine-Russia border over the military build-up, France 24 is joined by Yves Doutriaux, Professor, State Councillor, and Former Deputy Spokesperson for the French Foreign Ministry. Mr. Doutriaux sees two possible scenarios: diplomacy or all-out confrontation. Russia could very well be seeking a diplomatic solution, illustrated in the "scenario of last spring," explains Mr. Doutriaux. "They put pressure militarily, exactly the same way they are doing now, more or less. And they achieve their desired outcome in getting a July summit with President Biden in Geneva. So that's a positive scenario." But Mr. Doutriaux also warns of possible "continued pressure on Ukraine by many means. And it could be very serious for Europe, as we are on the frontlines."
