  • Electric mobility takes off as ŠKODA ENYAQ iV and electric plane demonstrate the future of zero emission travel

ŠKODA has demonstrated the possibilities of pure-electric travel on land and in the air by pitting the new ENYAQ iV against the world’s first all-electric passenger plane, revealing how zero emission travel of all types could soon be a reality.Positioned at the cutting-edge of electric aviation, there are currently only two airworthy examples of the Pipistrel Velis Electro in the UK. Soon, though, it is hoped that hundreds of the aircraft will change the face of sustainable flight. To give an indication of the progress of electrified transport and demonstrate just how far EV technology has come, the ENYAQ iV and electric plane were put head-to-head in a twin test with a difference. With a range of up to 331 miles thanks to its 82kWh battery and highly aerodynamic design, the five-seat ENYAQ iV leaves range anxiety in its wake. In comparison, the Velis Electro’s 21kWh energy supply provides just 45 minutes of flight time - around 125 miles at cruise. Unrestricted by the speed limits under which the ENYAQ iV’s 150kW motor must operate, however, the plane’s 60kW powerplant can propel two passengers up to a top speed of 112mph.

  • Skoda Connect - Travel Assist with Traffic Sign Recognition

There are features in your vehicle you hope you will never have to use – and yet it is reassuring to have them on board. This is true, for example, of the automatic emergency call eCall, which has been mandatory for every new car in the EU since 2018. The mobile online services of ŠKODA Connect also offer other helpful functions in all current ŠKODA models with the exception of the CITIGOᵉ iV, grouped as proactive services under Care Connect. These support drivers with any questions they have about the car. Two functions in particular help to ensure a relaxed journey, especially during the travel season: the info and breakdown calls, the buttons for which can be found in the roof module next to the red emergency call button and are marked with an ‘i’ or a spanner.

  • ŠKODA OCTAVIA Travel Assist

The new ACC, which - together with the updated versions of Traffic Sign Recognition and Lane Assist (now also able to identify road works), as well as Traffic Jam Assist and Emergency Assist - forms the comprehensive Travel Assist system. Using Hands-on Detect, this system also checks - at least every 15 seconds - whether the driver is touching the steering wheel consistently or whether they no longer have control of the vehicle due to a potential medical emergency. If such an emergency occurs, Emergency Assist can bring the car to a stop in its lane. Should it not be possible to prevent an accident from occurring despite the numerous assistance systems, the proactive Crew Protect Assist feature prepares the car as well as its occupants for the impending head-on or rear collision, or even rollover, by automatically closing the windows as well as panoramic roof, and tensioning the seat belts, for example. In the event of a collision, the occupants are also protected by up to nine airbags, including a driver knee airbag and rear side airbags. Following a collision, the Multi-Collision Brake prevents the vehicle from rolling any further in an uncontrolled manner.
