Explosions ring out and smoke rises in the area of Ocheretyne, a village in Ukraine's eastern Donbas region which, according to observers, is now mostly controlled by Russian forces. On Sunday, the commander-in-chief of Ukraine's armed forces said the situation on the frontline had "worsened", with Moscow's troops making a number of notable gains. IMAGES
The White House condemns a "horrifying" strike that killed at least 51 people in a village in eastern Ukraine, saying the attack underscored the need to keep supporting Kyiv against Russia. Images show the aftermath of a missile that hit near a kindergarten in Kramatorsk, eastern Ukraine. The missile carved a huge crater in front of the kindergarten, which had some 250 pupils and 70 staff before the war broke out. Debris from the strike, which sparked a small fire in the building and smashed windows, was strewn around the playground and lay near colourful murals on a school building. IMAGES
