Essence held its 9th annual black Women in Hollywood luncheon with a mass of major stars in and around Hollywood. Oprah Winfrey gave a speech that talked about how far black Women have come while Debbie Allen and Tracee Ellis Ross gave award speeches. Chris Rock, Meagan Good and Zendaya Coleman were also notable guests.
There were many misses during the Oscars but a prominent one was the tweet of a beauty brand, who mistook actress Whoopi Goldberg for television icon Oprah Winfrey.
We got a lot of good gossip at the Vanity Fair Oscar party from Jared Leto, Oprah Winfrey, Emma Stone, Common, Oscar winning Director and Writer Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, Graham Moore and John Travolta with wife Kelly Preston. Listen in.
Oscar nominee Lupita Nyong'o along with Kerry Washington with a baby bump and Oprah Winfrey were just some of the top stars at the Essence Black Women In Hollywood event.
Oscar Isaac, Idris Elba, Ice Cube, Dakota Johnson, America Ferrera, Emma Watson, Vivica A. Fox, Tom Hiddleston, Eva Mendes, Michael B. Jordan, Rose Byrne and Brie Larson were all inducted into the new 683 strong class of artist given invites to become members of The Academy Of Motion Picture Arts And Sciences. Among the invites, 41% were people of color and 46% were female which will make for a much more interesting 2017 Oscars. It was a long time in coming but we applaud the Academy for their bold move that fully embraces everyone.
