The closing bell rings at the New York stock exchange as Wall Street stocks conclude a roller-coaster year on a high note, reflecting optimism about 2021 despite broad weakness in the real economy due to the coronavirus pandemic. Security in Haiti, where violent gangs control large swathes of the country, has deteriorated even further, with the number of major crimes hitting "record highs," the UN representative to the impoverished nation warns.
