Oozing volcanic mud, known as lahar, blanketed numerous villages on the Indonesian island of Bali after seeping from Mount Agung’s rumbling volcano on Tuesday. The grey mud, which is a mixture of pyroclastic rock and water, flowed along rivers, streams and creeks as tens of thousands continue to evacuate from areas near the volcano. Indonesia's National Disaster Agency ordered anyone within a 10 kilometer, or 6.2 mile, radius to leave immediately, fearing a “major” eruption.
Chile's Villarrica volcano gives a spectacular display of lava as it erupts in the early morning hours, prompting several thousand to evacuate. Mana Rabiee reports.
La Palma, Sep 19 (EFE).- Santa Cruz de La Palma, Spain, Sep 19 (EFE).- More than 5,000 people have been evacuated - at least 500 of them tourists - due to the eruption on Sunday of a volcano located in the Cumbre Vieja volcanic ridge area on the Spanish island of La Palma, one of the most active volcanic zones in the Canary Islands archipelago, after a week in which thousands of small earthquake-like shocks and rumblings had been detected in the region.The Cumbre Vieja is located southeast of the island's most populous municipality, Los Llanos.No injuries or worse have been reported so far, but the eruption spewed lava and a tall column of dark ash and other volcanic material into the air over an unpopulated area, according to an EFE correspondent who witnessed the event. Alausi, Sep 20 (EFE) .- Villages from six Ecuadorian provinces were covered Sunday with ash from the Sangay volcano, located in the Amazon region, the country's president said."We are alert to the ash fall of the Sangay in Guayas, Los Ríos, Santa Elena, Chimborazo, Manabí and Bolívar!
