Prime Minister Rishi Sunak says the UK will act again if Iran-backed Huthi rebels in Yemen persist in attacking shipping in the Red Sea, speaking after a second round of joint US-UK strikes. "We urge the Huthis and those who enable them to stop these illegal and unacceptable attacks. But if necessary, the United Kingdom will not hesitate to respond in self-defence. Russia's tanks stand poised on "Europe's Ukrainian lawn", British defence minister Grant Shapps warns, in a wide-ranging speech outlining the United Kingdom's security priorities. Since the fall of the Berlin Wall, the world has "come full circle, moving from a post-war to pre-war world," Shapps adds, raising the alarm at an increasingly unstable security situation amidst Israel's war with Hamas in the Gaza Strip, increasing attacks on Red Sea shipping by Yemen's Huthi rebels and Moscow's ongoing invasion of its pro-Western neighbour. UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak says he will not allow the European Court of Human Rights to block the government's planned policy of deporting migrants to Rwanda. Speaking after the UK Supreme Court ruled the policy unlawful, he says he will introduce "emergency legislation" to designate Rwanda a safe country. "If the (European Court of Human Rights) chooses to intervene against the express wishes of parliament, I am prepared to do what is necessary to get the flights off" he says. SOUNDBITE
If Britain makes good on a threat to try to suspend parts of its Brexit treaty dealing with Northern Ireland it would cause "serious consequences" to EU-UK ties, top EU official Vice President Maros Sefcovic says in a brief statement after meeting in Brussels with Britain's Brexit minister David Frost.
