Scottish author D.J. MacLennan has arranged to have his head preserved at an ultra-low temperature as part of the cryonics procedure, with the intent to be restored to life if and when technology becomes advanced enough. Following his death, his head will be transported to a facility in the Arizona desert. Advances in cryonic sciences could enable organs to be stored in conditions suitable for transplant operations.
