Dozens of people and press gathered to watch as one of the largest domed stadiums in the United States was destroyed in a scheduled implosion in downtown Atlanta on Monday. The Georgia Dome, which was first opened in 1992 and cost $214 million, was blown to pieces by more than 2 tonnes of explosives at 07:30 AM local time and came down within about 15 seconds. The dome was home to the Atlanta Falcons, but has been replaced by the $1.6 billion Mercedes-Benz Stadium close by.
