United States President Barack Obama spoke about the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement at the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in Vientiane on Wednesday. In his last trip to Asia as US President, Obama encouraged free trade agreements between nations. Both Democratic and Republican presidential nominees Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump have voiced their opposition to the TTP agreement.
European foreign policy chief Josep Borrell gives a press conference in Capri, Italy, ahead of the Foreign Affairs Ministers' Meeting in which he says that the Western countries "have to take quicker decisions in order to support Ukraine more because we cannot afford Putin's victory in Ukraine." A Russian court sentences top human rights campaigner Oleg Orlov to two and a half years in jail for denouncing Russia's offensive against Ukraine. The judge finds Orlov guilty for "committing a crime under article 280" ("calls for extremist activity") and orders "imprisonment for a period of two years and six months." Orlov was accused of discrediting the Russian army after writing a column written for the French online publication Mediapart, and fined in October after a first trial. IMAGES
