President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker met with First Minister of Scotland Nicola Sturgeon in Brussels on Wednesday, as the European Council emergency meeting on the 'Brexit' issue takes place in the Belgian capital. Relations between Scotland and the EU, the 'Brexit' result, as well as the possibility of a second referendum on Scotland’s independence from the UK were expected to top the agenda of the meeting.

A heavy police presence lingers outside the home of Scotland's former first minister Nicola Sturgeon, as Scotland's ruling party faced fresh turmoil following her husband's arrest as part of a police investigation into financial irregularities. Peter Murrell, 58, was chief executive of the Scottish National Party (SNP) for nearly 25 years until he quit last month. In a statement, Police Scotland said they had taken a 58-year-old man into custody for questioning over "the funding and finances of the Scottish National Party."
