American Muslims Decry Islamophobic Hate Crimes at Funeral for Slain NYC Imam

Over 1,000 Muslims gathered to honour Imam Maulama Alauddin Akonjee and his associate Thara Uddin at their funeral in New York City on Monday, after the two were killed in Queens in what many in the city's Muslim community believe to be a hate crime. Following the funeral, the mourners marched through Queens, holding placards reading 'We want justice' and 'Stop Hate Crimes'.
