Train Riders Can Now Buy Bitcoins at Swiss Railway Ticket Kiosks

Description

Switzerland's largest railway company, Schweizerische Bundesbahnen, or SBB, began a two year trial period of offering the digital currency Bitcoins for sale to the public at Zurich Hauptbahnhof. The programme is set to be implemented in thousands of kiosks at numerous stations across Switzerland. Bitcoin has a controversial reputation. It's a digital crytocurrency which is not controlled by any particular bank and is nearly untraceable, so it is often used to purchase or sell illegal items or services over the dark side of the internet, often referred to as the darknet. One Bitcoin is currently valued at about $245 and can be used to buy just about anything over the internet. The value of Bitcoin has fluctuated greatly since its introduction in 2009 and the financially progressive nation of Switzerland may just be the perfect place to experiment with the potential of the cryptocurrency.
