The threatening moves were prompted by a visit to Taiwan last week by US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Chinese authorities say.
Projectiles are seen firing upwards in the Taiwan Strait (6"-25"), as Beijing's military announced "long-range live ammunition firing" in the area. The drills are China's largest ever encircling Taiwan and kicked off Thursday, in a show of force after a visit to the island by US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. IMAGES
