Samsung confirmed this week that its next flagship phone will be unveiled in February. We didn’t get an exact date, but the company usually times the announcement to coincide with Mobile World Congress, an annual expo set for February 26-March 1. So you can expect the Galaxy S9 to debut around then. Although the specs themselves may not be a huge upgrade, according to a leak on Reddit, the camera could be getting a major overhaul. The leak mentions “super slow-mo” video, and rumors has it the phone will be able to capture video at 1,000 frames per second. That’s a nice step up from the Galaxy S8, which maxed out at 240fps.
Apple overtook Samsung as the world's top smartphone vendor at the end of 2016. Strategy Analytics said The iPhone captured 18 percent of the global market in the December quarter. Apple reported 78.3 million iPhones sold in the fourth quarter, snapping a three-quarter streak of iPhone unit sales declines. The global smartphone market, has been sluggish in recent years, but recovered some due to stronger demand in developing markets like China and Africa.

With the release of the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge this week, it took only a couple of days for the world to get a look at how much damage the new smartphones can take beyond scratching. SquareTrade, a smartphone insurance company, took the brand-new Galaxy S7 phones and tested their water resistance and durability against falling, tumbling and bending. The S7 phones fared much better underwater than the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus and SquareTrade says they're the most water-resistant phone it has tested. As far as the S7’s glass front and back are concerned, the corners and back reportedly break easily. After a run inside a device known as the TumbleBot, the S7 and S7 Edge had significant damage on the back and corners, with minor scratches on the screen.
Samsung's smart and attractive rethink of its Gear line of smart watches, the Gear S2 now has a price, $299.99, and availability date for the U.S., October 2. Like the Apple Watch, the Gear S2 offers a number of band and finish choices, includes a heart-rate sensor and has microphones for voice recognition. No word, yet, on iOS support. The Tizen OS doesn't support any of the thousands of Android Wear apps currently available, which means app developers have to start over if they want to support the Gear S2.
