Iraqi forces begin to drive Islamic State from the militants' last major stronghold in the country on Monday, in their largest operation since the U.S. withdrew its troops.
Islamic State expands its attacks against Iraqi army and Kurdish forces to relieve pressure on its militants confronting an offensive on Mosul that has taken back some 80 villages and towns from militant control. Mana Rabiee reports.
Kurdish Peshermerga forces say they have liberated some 20 villages from Islamic State control outside Mosul, although the militants release video to say they remain in control of the city itself, ftheir last bastion in Iraq. Mana Rabiee reports.
