British-born economist Angus Deaton, who has won the 2015 economics Nobel Prize for his work on consumption, poverty and welfare, says he still can't quite believe the news. Rough Cut (no reporter narration).
The Nobel prize in economics is awarded to American economist Claudia Goldin for helping understand the role of women in the labour market. The Harvard professor, who is the third woman to be awarded the prestigious economics prize, was given the nod "for having advanced our understanding of women's labour market outcomes," says Hans Ellegren, Secretary General of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. The head of Norway's Nobel Committee, Breit Reiss-Andersen, announces that the 2022 Nobel Peace Prize has gone to Belarusian human rights activist, Ales Bialiatski, Russian human rights organisation, Memorial, and Ukrainian human rights organisation, The Center for Civil Liberties (CCL). SOUNDBITE
American chemist Carolyn R. Bertozzi reacts by phone to receiving the 2022 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, which she is sharing with Denmark's Morten Meldal and fellow American Barry Sharpless. The trio are being honoured "for the development of click chemistry and bioorthogonal chemistry". SOUNDBITE
