The Republican committee of Arizona's Maricopa County is considering censuring the widow of the late GOP Sen. John McCain. Cindy McCain was a prominent Republican supporter of President-elect Joe Biden's 2020 campaign against President Donald Trump. Business Insider reports the committee floated a proposal on Saturday that would have censured her, but the measure did not move forward. The state party confirmed via Twitter that they would vote on a resolution to censure McCain on Jan. 23rd. The Maricopa GOP has already censured former Republican Sen. Jeff Flake of Arizona, who endorsed President-elect Joe Biden in the 2020 election.
A Wednesday, a violent mob took over the Capitol, leading to five deaths. The destroyed furniture, stole furniture, smeared feces, and desecrated offices. The Washington Post reports Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell never wants to speak to President Donald Trump again. The Kentucky Republican has reportedly been estranged from Trump in recent weeks. He gave a fiery speech on the Senate floor this week rejecting the president's continued claims of voter and election fraud. McConnell made the speech as Congress was gearing up to count the electoral votes in the 2020 election.
President Donald Trump and the GOP have filed dozens of lawsuits since Election Day. They are looking to overturn the results of the 2020 election. Business Insider have sued in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. They've notched zero victories. There are 38 cases where they've withdrawn or lost. There are four cases pending.
Dr. Fauci met with President-elect Joe Biden's transition team on Thursday. Fauci will continue in his role under the Biden administration at the National Institutes of Health. Fauci said they discussed “a variety of Covid-related topics.” Fauci said he has spoken previously with Biden's incoming White House chief of staff, Ron Klain. Fauci added that his Thursday meeting will likely be the first of a series of transition meetings with the team. He also said he fully expects to remain in his role as director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
