Acting Priest Promoted to Brigadier General for First Time Ever

This is Brigadier General Silverio Ernesto Suarez Hernandez, a man who has recently been promoted to a one-star general in the ranks of Colombia's National Police. However, when he comes to church, he swaps in his military fatigues for a different sort of uniform. Father Silverio Ernesto changes into a priestly robe and leads mass for his faithful flock. When he was promoted to Brigadier General after serving for over 23 years in the National Police of Colombia, Father Silverio Ernesto became the first active priest to attain the military rank of General in Colombia's history. After having become the Police Chaplain and earning a rank of Colonel with the National Police, Father Silverio Ernesto was one of 11 selected from a group of 54 officers of the same rank to take part in the Strategic Course of Public as part of a process of promotion to the rank of Brigadier General. He answered the call to priestly life after he witnessed a man douse a police officer in gasoline and burn him alive while on duty. Now the military Catholic priest leads a congregation in Bogota for Mass and is known to use puppets as well as sweets to keep the attention of young children during his service.
