Hyundai Motor Company successfully conducted the company’s first platooning of trailer trucks on the Yeoju Smart Highway replicating real-world traffic conditions.Hyundai Motor conducted the trial using two trailer-connected Xcient trucks.Yeoju Smart Highway is a 7.7km testbed within the central region expressway established by the Korean government for the development of autonomous driving technology. The highway is constantly populated by vehicles for autonomous driving research, making it quite similar to the conditions of an actual highway.The demonstration successfully displayed the following technology: Vehicle platooning, cut-in/out by other vehicles, simultaneous emergency braking, and V2V (Vehicle to Vehicle) communication tech. The speed limit was set at 60km/h to ensure safety.
If you've been keeping track of new technology, you have probably heard of self-driving cars. Well, driverless cars took a major leap forward last weekend in Germany. German Transport Minister Alexander Dobrindt and chairman of Deutsche Bahn Ruediger Grube were among the passengers of the first self-driving bus journey in Germany, a development that may radically change transportation, not only in Europe, but all over the world. The bus, dubbed “Olli”, made several rounds around the Euref-Campus premises in Berlin, and is due to undergo further testing in DB’s Bavaria-based Bad Birnbach test track before it will can be approved to hit the open roads.

Daimler Truck is speeding up the electrification of its vehicle fleet: the Mercedes-Benz eEconic for municipal use is going into series production at the Wörth site in southern Rhineland-Palatinate. After the start of series production of the eActros for urban distribution transport in October 2021, the second model of the battery-electric Mercedes-Benz truck will roll off the production line in Wörth within a short time. The eEconic was developed together with customers and has been undergoing practical tests with customers since May 2022 following an intensive series of tests. The first series-produced vehicle goes to Urbaser A/S, a company active in the disposal sector in Denmark. Other customers have already opted for the series eEconic. The vehicles are to be delivered successively over the course of the year.
