For the first time in New York City, a baby has been born with Zika-related birth defects after the baby's mother contracted the disease while traveling to an area where Zika is active. Rough Cut (no reporter narration).
Doctors at the Hackensack University Medical Center say a baby girl, who was born to a mother who became infected with Zika in Honduras, has microcephaly, but that "neither the mother nor the baby poses an infectious risk to others." Rough Cut (no reporter narration).
The Pan American Health Organization, the World Health Organization’s Americas arm, has warned that the Zika virus, which has been linked to a sudden rise of birth defects in Brazil, could see an “explosive” outbreak and spread to as many as four million people in the Americas, Reuters reported.
