Owner and head barber Ammar Kalsh became an internet sensation in Brazil and somewhat of a local celebrity in the Brazilian capital after being filmed using an axe and hammer to cut people's hair, taking some off the top in a way that has many grabbing for their necks. The Syrian refugee fled his native Damascus in 2014 with only the clothes on his back and $30 to his name, escaping the bloodshed and violence to start a new life in Brazil.

The European Commission announces it is clearing a 50-million-euro payment to the Palestinian refugee agency UNRWA, which was under review following Israeli claims its staff participated in Hamas's October 7 attack.
