Olympics - Pole Vaulting explained

Description

Pole vaulting is one of the four jumping events in track and field. Competitors use a long, flexible pole to leap over a bar. There is a least 45 meters of runway for athletes to build up kinetic energy during the approach. More speed equals more kinetic energy. This kinetic energy turns into potential energy stored in the pole. The pole recoils and the potential energy is unleashed, thus propelling the vaulter over the crossbar.
