Police officers and civilians ran for cover as sniper fire rained down around the Dallas city center on Thursday. Police announced that a fifth officer had died after being fatally shot by so-far unidentified assailants. Sniper rounds ripped through the Dallas night during a protest against the recent fatal police killings of African Americans Alton Sterling and Philandro Castile. The assailants were apparently targeting police - 11 officers were shot, 5 fatally.
At the funeral for slain Fox Lake police officer Charles Joseph Gliniewicz, mourners say he was a man who helped people down a "positive path." Gavino Garay reports.
Violence breaks out in the Paris suburb of Nanterre, where several thousand people were marching in tribute to 17-year-old Nahel who was killed by a police officer during a traffic stop on Tuesday. Scuffles broke out, with fireworks being fired, to which the police responded with tear gas. Several fires were lit in the vicinity of the prefecture and cars were set alight. IMAGES
Clashes broke out in Thessaloniki between groups of young people and Greek police at the end of a demonstration to commemorate the murder of a teenager by a police officer 14 years ago.
