As far as press conferences go, in and around the White House, it's been mighty quiet ever since the press began referring to Joe Biden as 'President-Elect.' CNN reports while President Donald Trump has played a lot of golf since Election Day, he hasn't answered a single question from the press. Nor has Acting Defense Secretary Christopher Miller, despite the White House's decision to draw down troops in Afghanistan and Iraq. However, CNN reports White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany showed up to a press briefing on Friday--her first one in seven weeks. In the end, however, she refused to take a question from CNN White House Correspondent Kaitlan Collins, calling her an 'activist.' Collins told CNN's Brian Stelter on Sunday that no one wants to speak because Trump's still trying to overturn the election behind the scenes.
Dr. Deborah Birx one of the White House's most senior coronavirus advisers, issued a dire warning on November 2. Dr. Birx her warned the Covid-19 pandemic is going to get much, much worse before it gets any better. Birx said: "We are entering the most concerning and most deadly phase of this pandemic". Dr. Birx went on to warn that the coming weeks and months could lead to an increased mortality rate from the virus. Dr, Birx warned that the US could see more than 100,000 new cases per day this week. Birx cautions that as hospitals fill up, we could see a return to hospitals operating at capacity and rationing ventilators.
When it comes to his Cabinet, President Donald Trump has certainly lived up to his 'Celebrity Apprentice' catchphrase, 'You're fired.' Whether they left because they resigned or were fired, the list of former Trump officials who say they'll be voting for Democratic opponent Joe Biden is growing. According to Business Insider, some have joined anti-Trump political coalitions such as The Lincoln Project, Republican Voters Against Trump, and others. Hoping to sway the votes of independent, undecided, and moderate Republicans, they've spent millions on campaign ads to oust Trump from the White House. Former DHS chief of staff Miles Taylor called working under Trump 'terrifying," saying many things Trump wanted the department to do were illegal. Former White House communications director, Anthony Scaramucci, says he'll be voting for Biden. And former national security adviser John Bolton won't be voting for Trump or Biden. Instead, he'll write in the name of a conservative candidate.
After much ado about mutable microphones and plexiglass shields, President Donald Trump will face opponent Joe Biden on Thursday. CNN reports Trump needs to not just perform well at the presidential debate, he'll need to pull a rabbit out of the hat to swing the race his way. Both candidates need to improve their standing with certain groups, though. Biden needs more Hispanic voters, and Trump is struggling to get White suburban women. Biden has been laying low recently, preparing for the event. Trump, meanwhile has been barnstorming across the country in full gripe-and-moan mode. The president spends his rallies insulting scientists and refusing any responsibility for the pandemic, which has created a huge drag on his poll numbers.
Fed Chair Jay Powell warned on Tuesday that the US economy would suffer if another stimulus package isn't passed, which remains stalled in Congress. House Democrats passed a $2.2 trillion stimulus plan earlier this month, but Sen. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) called the amount 'outlandish.'
