Madrid, Jun 8 (EFE), (Camera: Macarena Soto).- Gypsy and Traveller communities in Spain are still victims of persistent racism and exclusion. FOOTAGE AND SOUNDBITES OF:-JENNIFER, VICTIM OF RACISM:"For me, there's no difference because we are all the same,m but there are people who, in the 21st century, are racist. I see it when, for example, a non-gipsy woman enters a shop and they don't suspect she would do something but, if it's a gipsy woman, she is watched and they suspect she can steal.""It's something that makes you suffer. Everybody stares at you as if you have done something bad.""Sometimes I had to go out of a shop since I was feeling I was inferior because they make you feel inferior, they look down on you and it shouldn't be like that.""It's a trend. Now all the media speak about anti-racism and we are all anti-racists, but in fact, it's not like that and it's something we can see in our country because there are many cases apart from mine. Regarding gipsies, this situation has always been like this and it's something that doesn't stop. It doesn't stop."-MARI CARMEN CORTÉS, LAWYER AT FOUNDATION SECRETARIADO GITANO:-"In recent years we could see a very important social, political and economic change in Spain. However, among the gipsy community, there's a high level of poverty and inequality and they have to face everyday racism.""Jennifer's case is a clear example of it: being gipsy is (for many) used as an excuse so your dignity is violated, for being mistreated and humiliated.""There is a negative and stereotyped image, full of prejudice, of the gipsy community, which is linked to the crime.""That negative image has a lot to do with the obstruction and limitation they find regarding the access to services and rights as any other citizen."
