Only one suicide bomber carried out the deadly attack at the Kabul airport, General Hank Taylor says at a Pentagon briefing, correcting an earlier assessment that there were two bombers and two separate explosions. "We do not believe that there was a second explosion at or near the Baron Hotel, that it was one suicide bomber," Taylor says. SOUNDBITE
UN Secretary-General António Guterres condemns "in the strongest possible way" the bombings at Kabul airport, which killed dozens including 12 US servicemen and have been claimed by the Islamic State group. Guterres has called a meeting of the permanent members of the Security Council to discuss the chaotic situation in Afghanistan. The meeting will take place on Monday. SOUNDBITE
An explosion targeting the convoy of Afghanistan's vice president Amrullah Saleh convoy rocked central Kabul early Wednesday, sending thick plume of smoke in the sky. "This terrorist attack has failed and Saleh is safe and fine," said Razwan Murad, the head of Saleh's media office. IMAGES
