A year after the Golden State Warriors overwhelmed the Cleveland Cavaliers to claim their first championship in 40 years, the two elite teams find themselves in the same position again, with the Cavs facing elimination on home court in Game 6 of the NBA Finals.
Hundreds of supporters took to the streets of Oakland to celebrate the Golden State Warriors' NBA victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers last night after a stunning performance by MVP Kevin Durant and teammate Steph Curry contributed to end the title hopes of LeBron James. Champaigne was flying, fans were yelling at the top of their lungs and the streets were packed with celebrating crowds holding up signs.
"It's just an honor to be named with the greats," says LeBron James after surpassing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the top NBA scorer of all time. James finished the night with 38,390 career regular season points, three more than Abdul-Jabbar's tally of 38,387, a record that had stood since 1984. SOUNDBITE

James' agent and CEO of Klutch Sports, Rich Paul, first told The Athletic's Shams Charania about the new contract, as well as confirming the agreement to multiple outlets on Wednesday. The deal sees him remain a Laker until the end of the 2022-23 season, and opens up the possibility of playing in the NBA at the same time as his son, Bronny. James' current deal had been set to expire at the end of the 2021-22 season. As part of the new deal, James is set to earn $41 million in the first year of the extension, before he earns $44.5 million in the final year of his contract.
