The Zoo of Copenhagen has released footage of a baby elephant which was born last week in captivity as part of a European breeding program for Asian elephants. The mother is 16 year old Maha Kumari and the fathers name is Fahim. The name and gender of the baby elephant aren't known yet. Calves weight in beetween 70 and 90kg at birth after spending 22 months in their mothers wombs, the longest gestation in the animal kindom. Vets were hand-feeding the tiny Amur leopard baby at the Yalta Zoo, as the cub is still too young to open its eyes or even walk on four legs. Only 57 Amur leopards, which are listed as "Critically Endangered," are believed to live in the wild as of 2015. Despite the fact that Amur leopard numbers have roughly doubled since 2007, they are still the species of large felines most vulnerable to extinction.
The beautiful miniature horse that could soon be breaking big records by being very small was recently born at a Idalgo farm in Russia's Leningrad Region, and could be seen frolicking around her new home, Thursday. Named Gulliver, the diminutive pony is an American miniature horse, animals that usually reach up to around 40 inches tall. However, Gulliver was born at a tiny height of just under one foot tall, leading experts to predict that he will be find himself in the Guinness Book of Records very soon.
