Dozens of people disembark from a UK Border Force patrol vessel in the port of Dover on November 30 2022. The British government says 426 migrants were detected crossing the English Channel in small boats that day. More than 40,000 migrants have crossed the Channel to Britain so far this year according to the UK government, whilst Britain and France have just signed a new deal in November - increasing what the French border controls are paid in order to prevent these crossings.
