Calais Migrant Camp Dismantled: Short-term solution to long-term problem? (part 2)

Description

Authorities in Calais have begun the operation to dismantle the squalid camp that's been home to thousands of refugees and migrants hoping to make it to the UK. Dozens of buses have been commandeered to take them to centers across the country where they can begin the process of applying for asylum. But it remains to be seen what becomes of the migrants, and whether the sight of people living in desperate conditions in northern France will really become a thing of the past.

SHORT TERM 12 IN CINEMAS ON 1st NOV 2013 www.vivaverve.com/shortterm12 Twitter: @ShortTerm12UK Facebook: /ShortTerm12UK "Just watched the captivating Short Term 12. Can't wait until it is released so we can all talk about it." - Lena Dunham, creator of Girls Short Term 12 was the toast of this year's South by Southwest (SXSW) festival, winning both the Grand Jury Prize in the Narrative Feature Competition and the Audience Award. Told through the eyes of Grace (Brie Larson), a twenty-something supervisor at a foster-care facility for at-risk teenagers, Short Term 12 is written and directed by Destin Cretton. Passionate and tough, Grace is a formidable caretaker of the kids in her charge, and in love with her long-term boyfriend and co-worker, Mason (John Gallagher Jr). But Grace's own difficult past, and the surprising future that suddenly presents itself, throw her into unforeseen confusion, made all the sharper with the arrival of a new intake at the facility: a gifted but troubled teenage girl with whom Grace has a charged connection. While the subject matter is complex and often dark, Short Term 12 finds truth, and humour, in unexpected places.
