Mercedes-Benz eActros - Driving Video

Description

In 2016 Mercedes-Benz Trucks became the first manufacturer in the world with a heavy-duty electric truck. The technology pioneer is now taking the logical next step: putting its electric truck, the eActros, out on the road with customers. Ten vehicles in two variants, with a gross vehicle weight of 18 or 25 tonnes, will be handed over in the next few weeks to customers, who will be testing their everyday feasibility and economic efficiency under real-life conditions. The long-term aim: locally emission-free and quiet driving in urban environments with series-production trucks. At the IAA Commercial Vehicles show in Hanover, back in 2016, Mercedes-Benz displayed its concept for a heavy-duty electric distribution truck for urban areas. The feedback to the technical feasibility of building such a vehicle was positive across the board – from the general public, politicians and customers. In Germany alone, around 150 very serious enquiries were received. Using expertise from across the whole Daimler Group, an interdisciplinary team from Daimler Trucks has designed a vehicle capable of coping with everyday distribution operations, a small number of which are due to be handed over to customers very soon. A number of technical and, above all, business-related issues remain outstanding, key among them the range and cost of the batteries, but also the infrastructure required for their use as part of customers' commercial fleets.

  • The new Mercedes-Benz eActros Driving Video

“Now & Next” is the theme under which Mercedes-Benz Trucks is presenting its new products at the Wörth plant and giving an insight into the future of sustainable mobility. Among the new products on display is a prototype of the battery-electric eActros for heavy-duty distribution haulage; it is close to the series-production vehicle and gives a very tangible impression of the future model. Series production is due to start in 2021 at the Wörth plant – alongside the existing manufacture of trucks with combustion engines. The eEconic, designed specifically for municipal use, is based on the Mercedes-Benz eActros and is intended to follow it into series production in 2022.

  • Mercedes-Benz eActros 300 tractor (without trailer) Driving Video

How Mercedes-Benz Trucks is expanding the application variants of the eActros consistently is demonstrated, for example, by the eActros 300 as a tractor. Production launch is planned for the second half of 2023. Particularly suitable for flexible use in heavy-duty distribution transport, the electric truck is based on the same technology as the eActros 300 as a solo vehicle or articulated train. The vehicle with an M cab can tow all common European semitrailers, taking into account the maximum permissible overall towing length. As with the eActros 300, which has already been launched, the technological centerpiece is the drive unit, an electric rigid axle with two integrated electric motors and two-speed transmission. The two engines mounted centrally on the rear axle generate a continuous output of 330 kW and a peak output of 400 kW. The direct torque supply of the electric motors, coupled with the two-speed transmission, ensures powerful acceleration, impressive driving comfort and dynamics that enable more relaxed and stress-free driving compared to conventional diesel trucks. Three battery packs are installed, each with an installed capacity of 112 kWh. The range is up to 220 kilometers. When driving with foresight, recuperation can recover electrical energy and increase range. The battery-powered tractor can be charged with up to 160 kW: The three battery packs take just over an hour to charge from 20 to 80 percent at a standard DC fast-charging station with 400 A charging current.

  • Mercedes-Benz G580 with EQ in desert sand Driving Video

With the all-new Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ Technology, the brand with the three-pointed star presents the first fully electric variant of its off-road icon. It symbolises the fusion of tradition and progress like no other. The all-new electric G-Class remains true to the model’s character, retaining its angular silhouette including all iconic elements. Like the conventionally powered variants, its body is built on a ladder frame. The development team has modified and reinforced this to integrate the electric drive. Also retained is the combination of independent front suspension with double wishbones and newly developed rigid rear axle. The high-voltage lithium-ion battery integrated into the ladder frame ensures a low centre of gravity. With its usable capacity of 116 kWh, it provides sufficient energy for ranges of up to 473 kilometres according to WLTP.The four individually controlled electric motors located near the wheels develop a maximum total output of 432 kW. Together with the selectable LOW RANGE off-road gear reduction, they enable unique driving characteristics and exclusive functions. This allows G-TURN to turn the vehicle almost on the spot on loose or unpaved surfaces. The G-STEERING function can deliver a significantly smaller turning circle when driving off-road. The three-speed intelligent off-road crawl function is like cruise control for off-roading – maintaining optimum propulsion while the driver focuses on navigating the terrain.Like the tried-and-tested variants, the all-new Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ Technology has a gradeability of up to 100% on suitable surfaces. The vehicle remains stable on sideways slopes of up to 35 degrees. With a maximum fording depth of 850 millimetres, the electric G‑Class outperforms its conventionally powered counterparts by 150 millimetres. The LOW RANGE off-road gearing increases propulsion with a special reduction ratio. The all-new model generates the function of conventional differential locks virtually using intelligent torque vectoring. G-ROAR brings a unique sound experience to the all-new electric G-Class. In addition to a characteristic, G-Class-specific driving sound, it includes one “aura” sound and a variety of “event” sounds.
