Macedonia changes name of highway over dispute with Greece

Description

Workers remove a sign with the former name of the highway leading to the Greek border, "Alexander of Macedonia", newly renamed "Friendship Highway", near Skopje. The government decided to change the name of the highway, along with the name of the Skopje airport, following the name dispute with Greece. Athens has long objected to Macedonia's name, arguing it suggests Skopje has claims to the territory and heritage of Greece's historic northern region of the same name. IMAGES
