U.N. Chief Says Arrest of Journalists Shows Erosion of Press Freedom In Myanmar

Description

On Thursday, U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said that the arrest of two Reuters journalists in Yangon this week, signaled that freedom of the press is shrinking in Myanmar. Guterres said his main concern over Myanmar was the “dramatic violations of human rights." Gutierres said the arrest of journalists was most likely related during the military crackdown in the Rakhine State forced more than 600,000 Rohingya Muslims to flee the country for southern Bangladesh.
