Tens of thousands of passengers were hit by transport chaos on Friday as Ryanair pilots across Europe went on a coordinated 24-hour strike to push their demands for better pay and conditions at the peak of the busy summer season. IMAGES of pilots at Charleroi Airport
Mobile phone video provided courtesy of Tommy Engerer captures the moment as a fight breaks out on a Ryanair flight travelling from Brussels to Malta on Thursday, forcing the plane to land in Pisa, Italy. For reasons that are still unknown, four men began assaulting each other suddenly as flight service members attempted to intervene. The cabin crew then informed passengers over the intercom that the pilots made the decision to divert the plane. The four passengers involved in the flight were escorted off the plane and arrested at Pisa city airport. Ryanair has reportedly said in reaction to the incident that it will not tolerate such behavior on their flights and that the security of their staff and passengers is a priority.

The United Auto Workers (UAW) chief calls on 7,000 more workers to join a historic strike against the top three US car manufacturers at noon on Friday. UAW President Shawn Fain calls on the workers at Ford and General Motors (GM) plants in Chigaco and Michigan to join the first ever strike at the "Big Three" Detroit automakers -- Ford, GM and Stellantis -- as the union pushes for improved conditions across the board. "What we win at the bargaining table depends on the power we build on the job. It's time to use that power," Fain says. SOUNDBITE
Members of the United Auto Workers' (UAW) union picket and hold signs outside a Ford assembly plant in Wayne, Michigan, on the first day of a historic strike that is ordering simultaneous stoppages at Detroit's "Big Three" for the first time. The dramatic walkout -- marked outside a Detroit-area Ford plant with rowdy honking and cheers at the arrival of the United Auto Workers' leader -- came after a last-minute push by General Motors, Ford and Stellantis failed to produce an agreement before a contract's expiration.
