Brush Fires Chase Off Some California Insurers

Description

Californians are growing concerned that recent brush fires will lead insurers to drop coverage. With five major brush fires burning across Southern California out-of-season, billions of dollars in claims are expected to be filed by the time they are extinguished. California Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones added that state law incentivize insurers to drop coverage, instead of raising rates. Some insurers have begun to take that opportunity. Commissioner Jones stated that insurers have dropped coverage for homes in the Sierra Nevada foothills in recent years, after a brush fire swept through the area.
