The BMW Group is opening a new chapter in its history with the unveiling of a pure-electric Gran Coupe. The BMW Concept i4 takes electric drive to the core of the BMW brand and heralds a new era in Sheer Driving Pleasure. The BMW Concept i4 represents a look ahead to the BMW i4, slated to enter production in 2021. It provides a whole new take on the dynamic excellence for which BMW is renowned and blends a modern, elegantly sporty design with the spaciousness and functionality of a four-door Gran Coupe – all while generating zero local emissions.
BMW M GmbH is expanding the choice of models at the top end of its range with the addition of two four-door high-performance sports cars for the luxury segment. Both combine a distinctive vehicle concept and flamboyant styling with the most powerful engine ever developed for a BMW M model and bespoke chassis technology. The high-revving V8 unit with M TwinPower Turbo technology teams up with an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic, M xDrive all-wheel drive and the Active M Differential to channel its power - 441 kW/600 hp in the new BMW M8 Gran Coupe and 460 kW/625 hp in the new BMW M8 Competition Gran Coupe - onto the road with masterful assurance at all times. The 4.4-litre eight-cylinder engine impresses with its instant response to the slightest press of the accelerator, vast appetite for revs and uninterrupted power development over a wide rev band. These trademark M performance characteristics translate into a driving experience of standout dynamism. The BMW M8 Gran Coupe takes just 3.3 seconds to reach 100 km/h (62 mph) from rest and 11.2 seconds to hit 200 km/h (124 mph). The increased output of the unit fitted in the new BMW M8 Competition Gran Coupe warrants a model-specific engine mounting, resulting in even better responsiveness. Consequently, the sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) and 200 km/h (124 mph) are completed in an even faster 3.2 seconds and 11.0 seconds respectively. The top speed of both models is electronically limited to 250 km/h (155 mph), rising to 305 km/h (190 mph) if the optional M Driver's Package is selected.
"The new BMW 8 Series Coupe also gets its first taste of the car show spotlight at the Paris event. It combines the dynamic credentials of a high-calibre sports car both visually and technologically with the exclusivity of a luxurious coupe. The new design language, laced with clarity and precision, expresses an unmistakable sporting aesthetic. The body structure, powertrain and chassis technology of the 8 Series Coupe are geared squarely to delivering a standout driving experience of sporting intent. All of which provides an extremely dynamic initiation into the luxury segment for the brand’s model offensive. The new BMW 8 Series Coupe’s ultra-advanced control & display, driver assistance and connectivity equipment roster also contributes to the car’s exclusive, innovative character. The resemblance of the 8 Series Coupe to the BMW M8 GTE endurance racer is highlighted particularly vividly by the BMW M Performance model available from launch. The new BMW M850i xDrive Coupe (fuel consumption combined: 10.5 – 10.0 l/100 km [26.9 – 28.3 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 240 – 228 g/km) is powered by a new V8 petrol engine developing 390 kW/530 hp and making its debut in the car. The torque-rich power unit, chassis technology developed with motor sport expertise and an M Sport differential imbue the BMW M850i xDrive Coupe with thrilling performance characteristics. Joining the V8 in the range is a six-cylinder in-line diesel engine producing 235 kW/320 hp, which takes care of power in the new BMW 840d xDrive (fuel consumption combined: 6.2 – 6.1 l/100 km [45.6 – 46.3 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 164 – 160 g/km). Both model variants have intelligent all-wheel drive and also come as standard with Adaptive M suspension and Integral Active Steering."
