Full Electric Mercedes Benz Citaro Trailer

Description

It must be electric bus season again. After Thomas Built announced their all-electric school bus, Mercedes-Benz started the countdown to zero-emission buses. By the end of next year, Mercedes will start production of a bus with an electric drive system based on their existing bus platform the Mercedes-Benz Citaro. The company celebrated the production of their 50,000 Citaro recently. They’ve already been experimenting with hybrid bus technology with their Citaro G BlueTec Hybrid. The new Citaro is going to borrow the Hybrid’s wheel hub motors at the rear-axel. Energy for the bus will come with a newly designed modular lithium-ion battery pack. The modular design means that each bus could be customized to meet the specific range requirements of the route it's built to run.

  • Mercedes-Benz Vans Vision URBANETIC - Trailer

"Mercedes-Benz Vans presents its Vision URBANETIC, a revolutionary mobility concept that goes way beyond existing ideas on autonomous vehicles. Vision URBANETIC eliminates the separation between people moving and goods transport. It enables on-demand, sustainable and efficient movement of people and goods – and applies an innovative approach to fulfil the needs of cities, businesses from diverse sectors as well as city dwellers and travellers. The concept reduces traffic flows, relieves inner-city infrastructures and contributes to an improved quality of urban life. As part of a holistic system solution, Vision URBANETIC addresses future urban challenges and offers innovative solutions. The visionary concept is based on a self-driving, electrically powered chassis that can take different switchable bodies for people moving or goods transport. As a ride-sharing vehicle, Vision URBANETIC can accommodate up to twelve passengers, while the cargo module can carry up to ten EPAL pallets. A load space 3.70 metres long fits into a total vehicle length of 5.14 metres. Plus, the concept incorporates an IT infrastructure that analyses in real time the supply and demand within a defined area. The result is a self-driving fleet, with routes planned flexibly and efficiently on the basis of current transportation needs. All of this makes Vision URBANETIC a groundbreaking concept for future urban mobility. Thanks to full networking, the evaluation of local information – such as concerts and events – and intelligent control, the system not only analyses current needs, it can also learn from them. It is thus able to anticipate and react to future needs. This can optimise processes and help shorten waiting and delivery times and avoid traffic jams. For instance, the overall system can use the data captured by the vehicle control centre – which collates and analyses needs – to identify a crowd of people gathering in a certain area. It can send vehicles there to quickly and efficiently satisfy the increased demand. The system can thus react flexibly and is not based on rigid routes or fixed timetables."

  • Electrification of the public transport network - World premiere of the Mercedes-Benz eCitaro

" Electric mobility means rethinking bus transport in cities. The new all-electric Mercedes-Benz eCitaro takes electromobility using city buses to a completely new level. It offers an impressive and unprecedented standard in energy efficiency, courtesy of its innovative thermal management system that uses innovative components available for the first time with the launch of the eCitaro. It is the start of an innovation initiative for electric mobility, because together with the premiere, Daimler Buses already presents a concrete timetable for the city bus powertrain of the near future. The eCitaro already covers a large part of the operations of city buses today – in just a few short years, it will be able to completely replace the combustion engine with unique battery technology and a fuel cell as a range extender. The new eCitaro is far more than just a city bus: It is embedded into the eMobility system of Daimler Buses. This eMobility system supports transport operators from thorough consulting services and the assistance of an intelligent charge management system to the training of the employees and the provision of specific services. The eMobility system and the Mercedes‑Benz eCitaro consequently pave the way for switching to electric mobility for buses in cities and population centres."

  • The new fully electric Mercedes-Benz Citaro - Teaser

The all-electric Mercedes-Benz Citaro runs locally emission-free and almost silently, taking electric mobility using city buses to a new level. The basis of its drive system is provided by an electric portal axle with electric motors at the wheel hubs. The peak output of the motors is 2 x 125 kW, while torque is 2 x 485 Nm. It is an inherent feature of such motors that this is fully available right from the start, so ensuring appropriate dynamic performance even with a full complement of passengers. Lithium-ion batteries with a total capacity of up to about 243 kWh are responsible for providing the power. These are split between up to a maximum of ten modules. As well as two battery modules on the roof, the standard equipment includes four modules in the rear of the bus. Depending upon customer requirements, a further two or four battery modules may be mounted on the roof.
