Engagement on Facebook posts from misleading websites has spiked by 242 percent. These numbers come from 3Q of 2016 to 3Q of 2020, according to Business Insider. 10 outlets, known as "False Content Producers" or "Manipulators," are responsible for 62% of interactions. Facebook in the past has been slammed for inadequately handling the spread of misinformation. Facebook's attempts to moderate misinformation come into focus ahead of the US presidential election. Stopping the spread of misinformation is crucial to the integrity of daily life.
Since losing the 2020 election, President Donald Trump has continued to attack the integrity of the voting system. Some of his Fox News allies have homed in on the company Smartmatic--because of the services it provided Los Angeles County for the election. But CNN reports the voting technology sent Fox News a blistering legal threat accusing of participating in a 'disinformation campaign' against it. In response, Fox has begun airing a remarkable news package debunking claims its hosts and guests have propagated. CNN reports the package aired for the first time Friday night on Lou Dobbs' show. Fox News said the same package would air Saturday night on Jeanine Pirro's program as well as Sunday morning on Maria Bartiromo's show.
According to a new Gallup poll 83% of Republicans don't believe Joe Biden won the 2020 election. Per the poll, 99% of Democrats, 64% of independents, and 17% of Republicans said the news reports were "accurate." 89% of Republicans did not believe the electoral process worked well. 92% of Democrats said it did. Business Insider reports that 2020 election was unlike any other in US history. There was an unprecedented surge in mail-in voting, a raging pandemic, and a huge spike in domestic misinformation.
Georgia election official Gabriel Sterling is the state's voting systems manager. And according to Business Insider, the Republican has had more than enough of President Donald Trump and GOP senators. In a fiery press conference Tuesday, Sterling a Republican, urged them to 'stop inspiring potential acts of violence' against election workers. He said a young contractor with an election vendor, Dominion Voting Systems, has faced threats and harassment for completing basic tech tasks. Sterling tore into the president and local lawmakers for not showing any leadership and of being 'complicit' in the harassment of election workers. While President Donald Trump sends his lawyers hither-and-yon to try to overturn the election, President-elect Joe Biden has been busy filling Cabinet slots. HuffPost reports Biden named John Kerry on Monday as his special envoy on climate. He's tasked the former secretary of state with steering a 180-degree turn in US diplomacy on the issue. Kerry will also be advising the incoming Biden administration on the security challenges a warming planet poses. America will soon have a government that treats the climate crisis as the urgent national security threat it is. Kerry will represent the US at a moment that scholars increasingly see as a period of American imperial decline amid unprecedented planetary changes.
Since the 19th century, the infamous Pinkerton spy agency has a history of union-busting and involving itself in businesses. Now, Business Insider reports Amazon has turned to Pinkerton to monitor European workers' labor union organizing efforts. Leaked documents from Amazon's Global Security Operations Center revealed analysts have been tracking workers' union organizing activities. A report from Motherboard also disclosed that Amazon data analysts use social media to monitor social justice and environmental activist groups' activities. It's the latest in a string of evidence that highlights Amazon's robust efforts to monitor and crack down on its workers unionizing. Earlier this year, Amazon listed, but quickly removed, a job opening for an analyst that would monitor employee's efforts to organize.
